How To Store Those Mulch Topsoil Of Yours

By Ronald Reed

Topsoil is vital when you talk about planting something. This is the outermost and topmost layer of the soil where most of the biological soil activity of the earth occurs. The topsoil and the mulch are added together in order to make it more moisturize, fertile, and healthy. It can even reduce the growing weeds. The good news is, many stores today are selling mulch topsoil in NJ.

There can only be 2 reasons for storing topsoil with mulches. One, a contractor that stock up on such supply for different projects. Two, a homeowner who bought too much which ended up with a stock full of loads that cannot be used as of the moment. Since, these can just be stored and used later on, there will be no problem not unless you do not know how to store them.

Know what are the important steps needed for storage. Keep in mind that the moment you leave them in the exposure of elements, it will then be decayed and damaged. This cause money as those damage ones must be thrown away as you cannot use them anymore, prompting you to buy again if needed.

In storing such organic material, you want to slow down the development of fungus and so does the leaching of nutrients. When there is fungus, your mulches and topsoil will decay and rot, and so on. In order to avoid such thing from happening and to keep them in good condition, you must avoid excess moisture and flowing air.

The preservation ways and methods depends on the number of days you will be storing them. For those who are only storing it for a couple of days, you can just leave it as it is. Only do another steps when the storage period takes longer than a couple of months.

For short term storing, this applies for one week to two weeks, leave them exposed and you do not have to do anything. The only time you need to work is when there is rain and humidity is high. Keep it away from water and it must not get wet. You may not need this as you will be using it right away.

For medium term storing, applicable up to one to two months, you may need a tarp and a stake. This is important and pretty much needed during rainy weather. What you do is cover the pile using the tarp while the stake keeps the edges of the tarp off the pile. This lets the air flow on the inside, which is needed.

For 3 months and above, consider yourself building a storage place indicated for your topsoil only. Build something that would last for a long period of time, it must be well built. The area where you are gonna be placing it must not have a ground that moist a lot. For a cheap storage, use a wood in building it.

Nonetheless, you will not need the storage when you just avoid getting in a situation where you would need it. This can be avoided by simply buying only the exact amount of it. Do not get overwhelmed, calculate or estimate how much would you only must buy, you can still add if you ran out.
